Galaxy Macau Opens Capella — and Demand for Its Baccarat Salons Forces an Expansion Within Months

Galaxy Entertainment's 95-suite Capella opened February 10, 2026 with the Horizon Plus baccarat room attached. By August the operator had expanded from six private salons to ten 'due to strong demand.'

Galaxy Entertainment Group officially opened Capella at Galaxy Macau on February 10, 2026 — a 95-suite hotel that chairman Francis Lui described as built for "our top percentile of VIP guests" (Galaxy Macau press release, February 10, 2026).

What makes it a baccarat story is the room next door.

Horizon Plus

Horizon Plus, the premium gaming area attached to the hotel, was designed around baccarat. During the soft-opening phase in 2025, Citigroup analysts who toured the room described an open floor of 16 baccarat tables — most with minimum bets of HKD5,000 and HKD10,000 — and, behind it, six private salons each holding two to three baccarat tables, some fitted with karaoke systems. The analysts noted two players at the tables with chip stacks of HKD8 million and HKD5 million, and observed that the room's position next to the hotel elevators meant guests did not "need to walk miles" from suite to table (Citigroup memo, via GGRAsia, May 27, 2025).

Six Salons Become Ten

Six months after the official opening, Galaxy told shareholders the room was already too small. "Due to strong customer demand, we also expanded Horizon Plus, our premium gaming area, from six private salons to ten," the company said in its interim results, adding that Capella had strengthened its ability "to capture the super-premium mass segment at scale" (Galaxy Entertainment Group Q2 and Interim Results 2026, August 12, 2026).

The same report noted that Galaxy's Phase 4 development, of roughly 600,000 square meters, is in fit-out.

Where Macau's High-End Baccarat Lives Now

Capella and Horizon Plus are a case study in what replaced the junket era. Macau's VIP baccarat revenue rose 35.4% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2026, according to the DICJ — but that play now happens in operator-run salons attached to ultra-luxury hotels, where the operator controls the credit, the comps and the room. When one such room adds four salons in six months, it is the clearest sign available that premium baccarat demand is outrunning supply.
